Star Pupils: Prekindergarten Vision Screenings Prevent Blindness Georgia provides free vision screenings to prekindergarten children at public and private schools and childcare facilities throughout Georgia. Certified staff and volunteers conduct a three-part screening with each child.
Part 1 -Observation: Children are observed for appearance, behavior or complaints which may indicate vision or eye problems.
Part 2 -Distance Visual Acuity Test:In order to determine the visual acuity in each eye, children are asked to name the shapes on a wall-mounted chart while a volunteer covers one eye at a time.
Part 3 -Stereopsis Test: Children wear a pair of polarized glasses and are presented with two cards, one of which has a three-dimensional letter on it. If the child's eyes are working together properly, he/she will be able to point to the three-dimensional image.
