Children's Vision Screening

In the 2007 - 2008 school year, Prevent Blindness Georgia vision screened close to 30,000 prekindergarten children. More than 1 00 volunteers and 14 certified vision screeners screened these students to make sure they were "vision ready" to learn.
In the 2008 - 2009 school year, Prevent Blindness Georgia volunteers and 15 certified vision screeners screened 31,371 prekindergarten children in 65 counties throughout the state.
Approximately 6% of the children screened annually are referred for further evaluation.
Children's Vision Screening costs $6.50 per child. Georgia is home to more than 100,000 prekindergarten children in 159 counties. The Children's Vision Screening program will expand as funding allows.
