2016 Alabama Vision Summit

Strange Auditorium, Birmingham Botanical Gardens

The Health and Medicine Division of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (formerly the Institute of Medicine) has conducted a consensus study to examine core principles and public health strategies to reduce visual impairment and promote eye health in the United States. Making Eye Health a Population Health Imperative: Vision for Tomorrow was released to the public on Thursday, September 15, 2016.

In late October, the Alabama Vision Coalition partnered with the EyeSight Foundation of Alabama and Prevent Blindness to host a statewide summit to discuss the NASEM report, the latest data on vision and chronic health disease in Alabama, and innovations that may change the way we treat and manage patients with vision problems.  Among our list of speakers are experts from NASEM, Prevent Blindness, and the National Alliance for Eye & Vision Research.

This event is for anyone who wishes to learn about vision loss prevention, including early detection of severe eye diseases; consumer health care.
