Join Prevent Blindness for a discussion on the latest in TED treatment and research. Learn how current treatments work in the eye, what types of clinical research are underway, and how to talk with your doctor about the right care for you. We’ll also review steps to identify and get involved in clinical trials. The session will feature Dr. Trevor Angell, a specialist in TED treatment and clinical research, as well as Richie Kahn, a patient advocate experienced in bringing the patient perspective into the clinical development process.

Trevor E. Angell, MD is Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine and Associate Director of the Thyroid Center, in the Division of Endocrinology and Diabetes at the Keck School of Medicine of USC in Los Angeles. He completed medical school, internal medicine, and endocrinology training at the Los Angeles County Medical Center and subsequently joined the faculty of Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School, before returning to USC. His clinical practice focuses on thyroid diseases, including Graves’ disease and Thyroid Eye Disease. He serves as Editor-in-Chief of Clinical Thyroidology and has given national educational talks for the American Thyroid Association and ThyCa: the Thyroid Cancer Survivors’ Association.

Kira Baldonado is the Executive Vice President of Prevent Blindness, where she provides strategic leadership across public health, programming, and policy functions. With nearly 30 years of nonprofit experience, she has driven national systems change through collaborative policy development, multi-sector partnerships, and the establishment of best practices in vision health. A seasoned grant writer and program leader, Kira has secured and managed significant federal and corporate funding, authored over a dozen peer-reviewed publications, and led national coalitions and quality improvement initiatives. Her leadership has expanded Prevent Blindness’s reach, strengthened its advocacy impact, and ensured alignment with strategic and financial goals. A recognized thought leader, Kira holds an MPH in Health Policy and Management from Kent State University and has served in numerous advisory roles for major organizations in eye health and public health.
