A recent 2026 survey by Prevent Blindness found that nearly 75% of Americans mistakenly believe they would notice symptoms if something was wrong with their vision or eye health. In reality, serious conditions like glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy often progress silently in early stages.
This national survey of over 1,000 U.S. adults aged 18+ highlights widespread misconceptions about eye health.
These insights underscore the need for proactive eye care, as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that 7 million Americans live with vision loss or blindness, much of which is preventable.
