Prevent Blindness Names Michael Block of Block Business Group, As 2016 Person of Vision Award Recipient

CHICAGO (Jan. 13, 2016) – Prevent Blindness, the nation's leading volunteer eye health and safety organization dedicated to fighting blindness and saving sight, has chosen Michael Block of Block Business Group as the recipient of the 2016 Prevent Blindness Person of Vision Award.  The award will be presented on April 14, 2016 at the Prevent Blindness Person of Vision Dinner at the Lotte New York Palace, New York City, in conjunction with Vision Expo East.

The Prevent Blindness Person of Vision Award recognizes an individual or organization whose inspired outlook champions healthy vision and its importance for a healthy life.  In 1972, Block began his career as an independent licensed optician. In 1983, he started Block Buying Group and in1991, he founded Block Vision. Today, Block is President of Block Business Group, a purchasing group and practice management organization for independent eyecare professionals in Boca Raton, Fla.

At Prevent Blindness, Block has served as the co-chair of the Prevent Blindness Swing Fore Sight committee for the past two years.

The chairperson of the 2016 Prevent Blindness Person of Vision Committee is Andy Alcorn, chairman at Superior Vision.  Individual tickets for the event may be purchased for $350 or $3,500 for a table of 10.

Block Business Group is serving as the Silver Sponsor and the reception will be sponsored by VSP. Early table sponsorship commitments have been received by The Vision Council, Visibility Management and Jobson. Additional sponsorship opportunities of varying levels are available.  All proceeds from the event will go to support the sight-saving programs from Prevent Blindness.
