Prevent Blindness Urges U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations to Support Resolution on Vision and Eye Health

Prevent Blindness supports a proposed United Nations (UN) Resolution of Vision and Eye Health.  Today, we have requested that Linda Thomas-Greenfield, the United States Ambassador to the UN, join us in supporting its passage as well.  In 2015, the UN established a series of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), including 169 targets, to “serve as a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future.”  Notably missing from these was any mention of vision and eye health.  This resolution, which would be the first ever to discuss vision and eye health in any manner, seeks to rectify this omission, and does so by embracing the SDGs.
