As millions of Americans review their health coverage options during the open enrollment period,* Prevent Blindness has launched a new educational resource to help individuals and families better understand their vision and eye care benefits. The new guide, “Understanding Eye Care Benefits,” breaks down the often-confusing landscape of insurance terms, coverage types, and benefits related to eye exams, glasses and contact lenses, medical eye care, and surgery. The resource also offers links to additional information, opportunities to engage in eye care advocacy, and a platform for sharing personal vision stories.
“Eye health is an essential part of overall health, yet many people don’t realize that coverage for vision and eye care services can vary depending on their insurance plans,” said Jeff Todd, president and CEO of Prevent Blindness. “This new resource is designed to help people make informed decisions about their coverage options so they can access the care they need to protect their sight.”
Prevent Blindness encourages everyone, including care partners, to carefully review their health and vision benefits, understand what’s covered under their medical and/or vision plans, and schedule regular, comprehensive eye exams. With clear and trustworthy information, Prevent Blindness aims to empower the public to make the most of their insurance benefits and take proactive steps toward lifelong eye health.
