The Illinois Society for the Prevention of Blindness (ISPB) and Prevent Blindness are pleased to announce that Governor J.D. Pritzker has issued an official state proclamation declaring October 9, 2025 as World Sight Day in the State of Illinois.
This proclamation, also signed by Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias, recognizes the global importance of eye care services and access, and the efforts of Prevent Blindness and ISPB in the state to improve vision and eye health, as well as quality of life, for Illinois residents. World Sight Day was originated by the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness to spotlight the critical need for eye health awareness, education, programs and access to sight-saving services.
“We thank Gov. Pritzker for his acknowledgement of the importance of our work, and the need for improving the vision health of Illinois residents of all ages,” said Jeff Todd, president and CEO of Prevent Blindness.
Added Elyse Fineman, Director of ISPB, “We look to forward to working with our allies in public health departments across the state to help achieve a lifetime of healthy vision.”
